Sacramento restaurant closed over rodent droppings. What else did inspectors find?

Sacramento County Health Inspectors gave a red placard to a Japanese fusion restaurant after finding about 20 rodent droppings throughout the facility. Additionally, 12 restaurants were cited for unattended raw chicken, gunk found on a can opener and a missing food safety certificate. What do these inspections mean? While a yellow placard signals two or more major violations, these are typically corrected or mitigated during the inspection, according to the Sacramento County Retail Food Inspection Guide . A red placard, however, signals “imminent danger to public health and safety” and suspends an establishment’s health permit until violations are corrected. This could include, but is not limited to, major vermin contamination . In contrast, a green placard means a restaurant passed inspection. The county performs about 14,000 inspections annually and about 97% of establishments pass, spokesman Ken Casparis previously told The Sacramento Bee. Approximately 1% of inspections result in a closure, he said. These were the results of Sacramento County food facility inspections for Thursday, Oct. 29, through Wednesday, Nov. 4. If an inspection listed below needs clarification, business owners can email The Sacramento Bee at servicejournalists@sacbee.com . How to report a business to the health department For readers who would

Sacramento-area residents have a mix of news to track this Thursday, from pest problems to pantry safety to a new dining option. Here’s a quick look at three stories making headlines. Sacramento ranked No. 20 on Orkin’s 2026 list of the 50 worst U.S. cities for rodent infestations, and a Terminix home inspector told The Bee that rats and mice seek warmth and shelter indoors during colder months , squeezing through holes as small as a dime to nest in walls. Where to find France's famous, fresh Beaujolais Nouveau wine in Sacramento

Every year on the third Thursday of November, Beaujolais Nouveau is released and immediately flown to shops and restaurants around the world. Made from Gamay grapes in the Beaujolais region of France, the wine is meant to drink while it’s still young. According to Serious Eats , most Beaujolais Nouveau is mass-produced, using lower-grade grapes from the region. It tends to be bright and fruit-forward, a “simple, chuggable wine for celebrating the harvest.” Its more serious cousin, Cru Beaujolais, is made in a cluster of 10 villages in the northern part of the region, with premium grapes and more sophisticated winemaking methods. Because of its immediacy, many restaurants wrap events around the release, so people can experience the wine in the way it’s intended. Three Sacramento-area places are featuring Beaujolais Nouveau this month. The Sacramento branch of Chaine des Rotisseurs , the self-proclaimed oldest and largest food and wine society in the world, is hosting a Beaujolais Nouveau dinner at Brasserie du Monde at 1201 K St. on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. Chef-owner Aziz Bellarbi Salah is still finalizing this year’s menu, but guests can expect six or seven courses paired with Beaujolais wines. “We do a little
