North Texas man gets life sentence after strangling ex-girlfriend and her 10-year-old daughter to death
FORT WORTH, Texas — A North Texas man convicted of killing his former girlfriend and her daughter in east Fort Worth back in 2018 was sentenced to death Wednesday. Prosecutors said Paige Terrell Lawyer brutally killed 30-year-old O'Tishae Womack and 10-year-old Ka'Myria Womack. Tarrant County Assistant District Attorneys Lloyd Whelchel and Dale Smith said on April 5, 2018, Womack and her sister, Lashundra, went for a walk and saw Lawyer several times. The next day, O'Tishae Womack didn't show up for her morning walk with her sister – and she didn't answer phone calls, texts, or knocks on the door at her home, according to the attorneys.
Body found in Trinity River in Fort Worth, police say
FORT WORTH, Texas — A body was found in the Trinity River in east Fort Worth on Monday morning, police said. Officers were dispatched around 11:30 a.m. to an area of the river near Interstate 30 and Riverside Drive, where someone notified them of a body in the water. The person has not been identified yet, and police are still investigating the case.
Northside parents worry closure of FWISD middle school will cause drop in attendance
Growing up in the Northside neighborhood of Fort Worth, Luz Trejo, a Fort Worth ISD mom of three, knows the issues facing her community. The area’s residents are proud and vibrant, Trejo said, but some North Side High School families live far below the poverty line. Some parents leave for work early in the morning, before their children begin their school days, and don’t return until the kids are back home.
