Woman killed in crash in Lycoming County
Trout Run, Pa. — A 40-year-old woman of Trout Run was killed Monday when her vehicle went off a windy mountain road and down an embankment in Gamble Township. Maralea A. Cook died as a result of injuries from the crash around 3:15 p.m. May 6, according to Trp. Thomas Spagnuolo of state police at Montoursville. Police say Cook was traveling north in a 2013 BMW when she lost control of a vehicle on Sugar Camp Road as she was negotiating a left curve near the intersection with Chaapel Mountain Road. The vehicle hit a tree and then went down a steep embankment. The Lycoming County Coroner's Office and Willing Hand Hose Co. #1 assisted at the scene.
Inmate bites staff at Lycoming County Prison
Williamsport, Pa. — A 23-year-old inmate at the Lycoming County Prison bit a correctional officer causing an injury. Aaron Joel Snyder, 23, was taken to the ground in March when he attempted to injure himself while in custody, Detective Stephen Sorage said. Snyder allegedly bit the hand of an officer during the incident. The bite broke skin causing injury to the officer, according to the complaint. Snyder is being charged with aggravated assault and aggravated assault by a prisoner. Both are felonies. Snyder is being held on $75,000 monetary bail. Docket sheet
Man steals more than $700 of trading cards from Walmart
Lewisburg, Pa. — A Shamokin man allegedly under-rang packs of trading cards at a Walmart self-checkout, causing the store to lose more than $700. Donald J. Ponatoski, 37, was at the Lewisburg store on April 18 when he went to the self-checkout with multiple boxes of trading cards. Multiple hand-to-hand deliveries of crack cocaine to an informant
Williamsport, Pa. — A man delivered crack cocaine to an informant near W. Fourth Street three times in January, according to detectives with the Lycoming County Narcotics Enforcement Unit. Ronald Morton, 41, of Williamsport allegedly agreed to the deals with the informant as detectives listened. Morton sold .51 grams of the substance for $80 in marked bills each time he met the informant, detectives said. Morton is being charged with three counts each of criminal use of a communication facility and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. Morton is free on $50,000 unsecured bail. WILLIAMSPORT — A Williamsport police officer has been sued by the Black man he called the “N-word during an incident that was caught on video. Quincey Myers of Williamsport seeks unspecified damages against Officer Brandon Wheeler who was the subject of an internal investigation following the Dec. 31 incident.
Danville SPCA offers reduced adoption fees this weekend
Danville, Pa. — Several SPCA locations will be offering a reduced adoption fee this weekend. The BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization, has sponsored select SPCA locations for a special "Empty the Shelters" event on May 11. Philadelphia, Danville, and Lancaster SPCAs are participating in the event. During this event, all animals over the age of six months old will have their adoption fee reduced to $10. As the nation’s largest funded adoption event, “Empty the Shelters” has helped nearly 140,000 pets find loving homes. During each nationwide event, BISSELL Pet Foundation sponsors reduced adoption fees to make adoption more affordable for prospective pet owners.

Lycoming County man killed in crash
Muncy, Pa. — A Montoursville man died after he drove off the roadway and crashed into a tree Saturday, police say. William E. Messersmith, 87, was pronounced dead following along Route 220 just east of Oak Run Lane noon, said Trp. Dylan Houser of state police at Montoursville. Messersmith was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck south when he drifted off the roadway and into a drainage ditch, Houser said. The truck continued along the ditch for an "extended distance" before it struck a tree, according to reports. Messersmith "sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash," Houser said. However, Lycoming County Coroner Charles Kiessling said Messersmith was wearing a seat belt and didn't appear to suffer any fatal injuries from the accident. An investigation into the death continues, Kiessling said.
