Lewisburg, Pa. — A Shamokin man allegedly under-rang packs of trading cards at a Walmart self-checkout, causing the store to lose more than $700.

Donald J. Ponatoski, 37, was at the Lewisburg store on April 18 when he went to the self-checkout with multiple boxes of trading cards. Investigating Trooper Caleb Danner of state police at Milton says Ponatoski had a UPC code in the palm of his left hand which had a lower price than the trading cards. Video surveillance cameras caught Ponatoski scanning the UPC code that was in his hand rather than the code on the items, according to the affidavit filed by Danner.

Walmart asset protection was able to trace the purchases to Ponatoski's credit card. Ponatoski was observed on multiple occasions scanning a lower-priced UPC code, according to the affidavit.

Total amount the store allegedly lost was $786.

Ponatoski was charged with a misdemeanor of retail theft through the office of District Judge Jeffrey A. Rowe in Lewisburg. His preliminary hearing is set for May 30.
