Muncy, Pa. — Four UPMC Senior Communities staff members in the Northcentral region have been given the BEE Award for outstanding support of the nursing team.

The BEE Award, meaning Be Extraordinary Every (Day), recognizes the care team that supports nursing staff and works closely with them to provide patients with the compassion and care they need.

Michelle Meacham, staffing coordinator, Cole Place, Tamara Ruman, nurse assistant, The Laurels, Staci Kaler, CNA, Haven Place, and Bethany Stephens, CNA, Muncy Place, were all honored with BEE Awards after a review of April's nominations.

Michelle was nominated by a co-worker who shared:

“Michelle is an incredible asset to Cole Place. She is committed to both staff and residents. She is always willing to pick up a shift and assist. She advocates for residents when she notices a change in their condition. She respects staff and residents and takes time to get to know her residents’ story. She encompasses all aspects of the BEE award and deserves to be recognized for her hard work, dedication, and commitment to Cole Place.”

Tamara was nominated by a co-worker who shared:

“Tami has been a real asset to the nursing assistant team at The Laurels. She has been very thorough with her job duties, and they do not get in the way of her prioritizing the residents coming first. She always greets each resident with a smile and willingness to assist them. Also, she has made the first few weeks of the job a real comfort and has shown much kindness to me.”

Staci was nominated by a resident’s family member who shared:

“I got to know Staci while visiting my mother. Mom has been at Haven Place for about nine years. Staci is a very caring and committed worker. She takes wonderful care of my mother and I noticed she gives the same care to the other residents. She keeps me informed of my mother’s daily routine (how she's eating, if she's having a good talkative day). Staci is just a great caregiver and was put on this earth to do just what she is doing.”

Bethany was nominated by a co-worker who shared:

“Bethany spearheaded a friendly walking competition for the residents at Muncy Place to help increase resident mobility and spirits. Both staff and residents were invested in the race. This helped improve resident mobility, morale, and connections between staff and residents. She is always ready to step in and help if needed. Bethany is an outstanding team member and assists with the restorative nursing program. She is someone I rely on and never worry about her completing her tasks. She is very deserving of this award.”
