Montoursville, Pa. — Area residents will have a chance to learn the history of Indian Amusement Park through an upcoming walking tour.

The General John Burrows Historical Society will host the walk on May 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Indian Park in Montoursville.

Back in 1905, the park, formerly known as "Starr Island," was full of amusement park rides, an experience the historical society has captured through a display of historic photographs and a revival of old attractions.

In its heyday, attractions at Starr Island included a carousel, a wooden roller coaster, fishing and boating opportunities, a bowling alley, a shooting gallery, and even a trolley system.

The historical walking tour will bring the attractions back to life, offering participants a chance to relive the park's glory days.

"This walking tour offers a unique opportunity to connect with the rich heritage of Montoursville and experience firsthand the charm and excitement of Indian Amusement Park," said Julie Quick a member of the Board of Directors of the General John Burrows Historical Society. "We invite everyone to join us for this unforgettable journey through time and immerse themselves in the captivating history of our community."

Admission to the historic walking tour is free, and attendees of all ages are welcome. Participants will meet in Indian Park at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 19. The historical society is asking participants to park at the old pool complex and walk back to the soccer fields to start the tour.

For more information, please contact organizer Karen Wynn at 570-772-1427 or Julie Quick at 570-971-2459.
