94.7 The Block's Mister Cee, iconic NYC radio DJ, has passed away at 57

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Famed New York City radio DJ and a central figure of the city’s hip-hop scene, Mister Cee, has passed away at the age of 57.

Mister Cee’s death was confirmed by Audacy, the corporate parent of 94.7 The Block, 1010 WINS and WCBS 880.

“Tonight I share the sad news of the sudden passing of our 94.7 The Block colleague & friend, Mister Cee,” Market President Chris Oliviero said. “A true iconic personality that left a lasting mark on the music and lifestyle culture of New York City and beyond.”

94.7 The Block’s brand manager Skip Dillard said in a statement that “The Block family are heartbroken but thankful for a chance to work with one of the most influential figures in NYC contemporary music history!”

Dillard also posted about Mister Cee’s death on X, writing a message directly to the late DJ. “Your legacy will live on. God Bless your family. You’ve earned your rest. Well done.”

Born in 1966 in Bedford-Stuyvesant as Calvin LeBrun, Mister Cee was a long-time disc jockey known for his contributions to the city’s booming 1990s hip-hop scene.

He took part in the debut album of legendary artist Big Daddy Kane, and is often credited with discovering the Notorious B.I.G., serving as an associate executive producer on Biggie’s “Ready to Die” and “Born Again.”

Before joining 94.7 The Block where he played hip-hop classics every weekday, Mister Cee spent 20 years as DJ of Hot 97’s long-running show “Throwback at Noon,” one of the city’s most listened to programs.

Mister Cee also played a part in the launch of multiple significant music careers, including those of Drake, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys and 50 Cent.

“🙏🏿R.I.P to the legend MR. Cee God bless him, to all his family and friends I send my condolences 🕊️,” 50 Cent wrote on X Wednesday afternoon.

94.7 The Block broke the news of Mister Cee’s death on air at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Once they confirmed his death, The Block played the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Sky’s The Limit” in honor of Mister Cee
