NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A Queens man was arrested after good Samaritans helped a state trooper being punched during a wild traffic stop on Long Island last week.

At approximately 4:18 p.m. on April 18, a trooper conducted a traffic stop of a Blue Honda Odyssey for an expired Connecticut registration on the Southern State Parkway Westbound at Exit 18 in Hempstead.

As the trooper approached the vehicle on the passenger side, the driver Calith Hudson, 33, of Jamaica, Queens became verbally combative, authorities said.

Upon asking Hudson for his driver's license, Hudson threw his license to the ground and then climbed over the passenger seat and exited the vehicle, officials said.

The trooper gave Hudson verbal commands to stay in the vehicle which Hudson ignored. Hudson then proceeded to strike the trooper in the face with a closed fist causing injury to him.

A physical altercation ensued and the trooper was able to take Hudson into custody with the assistance of several good Samaritans who stopped upon seeing the altercation.

The trooper and Hudson were both taken to local hospitals where they were treated and released for non-life threating injuries.

Hudson was charged with assault, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
