Bulldogs batter Castleford to secure spot in state semis
ROCKLAND — For most of the first half, Rockland’s Xavier Parrish looked more like a Roman gladiator than a modern quarterback. Parrish sustained a nose injury early in the game and could not stop the bleeding until halftime, playing despite having his face, facemask and jersey covered in blood. But the Castleford defense couldn’t stop its own bleeding either, allowing Rockland to score touchdowns on eight of their 11 possessions en route to a 62-14 victory. While trying to keep the blood from limiting his breathing or vision, the senior signal-caller led the No. 2 Bulldogs (10-0) over the No. ...

Pool powers Poky to second state championship in 3 years
POCATELLO — As one-half of Pocatello High School’s dynamic duo, senior Brynlee Pool played a major role in the Thunder’s season-long push for a second state championship in three years. Pool finished the season second on the team with 16 goals, while leading the Thunder in both steals (80) and assists (29) — giving her 61 total points, also second on the team. Pool and fellow senior Aryanna Gonzalez — who tied for the state goals lead with 40 — led Poky through their masterful scoring all season, so it was fitting that the duo accounted for all eight of the Thunder’s goals at state. Both girls...

Lybecker will look at influential declarations from around the world and how they have shaped ideas of freedom, identity and the pursuit of a more just and peaceful society, according to the event flyer. The talk is part of the university’s America 250 speaker series, held in connection with the nation’s 250th anniversary. Ryan Sargent, the university’s associate vice president for government and community relations and special assistant to the president, organized the event.
