Bike to School is May 8 in Hayward
Hayward area school students are invited to join a nationwide movement on Wednesday, May 8, for National Bike to School Day. Participants are encouraged to meet in the Hayward Wesleyan Church parking lot at the intersection of Nyman Avenue and Highway 77 at 7:30 a.m. Cyclists will leave at 7:45 a.m. for Primary, Intermediate, Middle, and High Schools. Staff from the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation will be riding with students to the schools.
Canes softball sweeps Tigers, moves into first
The Hayward Hurricanes softball team swept a doubleheader from the Northwestern Tigers Thursday April 25 at Diane Hedin Field to move into sole possession of first place in the Heart O’ North Conference. Fishing opener forecast: Warmer, some lake levels are low
As the fishing season opens for walleye, northerns, largemouth bass and trout Saturday May 4, anglers can expect warming temperatures, but lake water levels are lower than normal in the Sawyer County area. Duluth, Minn. - Judy Behning has been named the Don Fennessy Volunteer of the Year for 2024 by the Grandma’s Marathon organization. She has worked with the event for 35 years, starting with crowd control at Lemon Drop Hill. She eventually moved to the beer tents in Canal Park. Behning says one of her favorite memories after decades of service is when her children joined her to pass out water to the elite runners. She will receive her official award at the Grandma’s Marathon Volunteer Appreciation Party in June.
Shue's Pond update
Much has been written recently about plans for Shue’s Pond in downtown Hayward. Shue’s Pond has been a great local fishing destination for decades.
