WEATHER STORY: As the Maritime Tropical air mass of the Gulf of Mexico migrates into our region, a southerly wind will set up and those two factors will turn up the heat this week. We will be warmer than normal for at least seven days. Most of the days will be sunny which helps keep temps up but that heat will also create lift through convection. ONE DEAD AFTER APARTMENT FIRE IN DULUTH
(Duluth, MN) — One person has died after an apartment fire in Duluth. First responders were called to the 600 block of 47th Avenue early yesterday morning after the fire was reported. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the apartment where it started and found someone dead inside that unit. No other injuries were reported and no other residents were displaced. The cause of the fire and the cause of death are under investigation.
DULUTH WOMAN ACCUSED OF STEALING $1K WORTH OF GAS
(Duluth, MN) — A Duluth woman is accused of stealing $1,000 worth of gasoline in Cass County gas stations and not paying for it. Sapphire Torres was arrested Monday and has been charged with one felony count of theft. Authorities say the defendant stole more than $1,000 of gas using a flatbed truck from at least three gas stations over six months. Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk is encouraging gas stations in northern Minnesota and northern Wisconsin to report similar incidents as there have been additional fuel thefts in the region – including a June 4th theft of $529 at a Remer gas station. The investigation began Monday evening when Swanson’s Bait & Tackle in Hackensack reported a fuel theft of $260 around 8:20 p.m. Previously that night, the corner store in Backus reported a $300 drive-off.
