    Shue's Pond update

Much has been written recently about plans for Shue’s Pond in downtown Hayward. Shue’s Pond has been a great local fishing destination for decades. We plan to stock bluegill and other catchable fish in June in preparation for Musky Fest, as has been done in past years.

“Additionally, Ethan Constantine, an Eagle Scout with ties to Whitefish Lake, will be installing a “Lure Library” at Shue’s Pond at the end of April. The concept for the lure library follows that of the popular “Little Free Libraries” where people can borrow or leave books. In this case, people can borrow or leave fishing lures.

“We hope this feature will get anglers of all ages and means excited about fishing and give them new tackle to try out. Other lure libraries will be installed at the fishing pier on Lake Hayward and at the boat landing on Whitefish Lake. Local anglers with a surplus of lures are encouraged to come make donations at one of the libraries!

“Lastly, it should be noted that the DNR is not involved in the plans or decisions about the Shue’s Pond island beyond reviewing any permit applications that may arise. The proposed idea for the island is separate from the fishing pier and shoreline restoration plan that was initiated last year.
