The Hayward Hurricanes boys golf team continues to be competitive in the spring season, as they won two recent matches. Local gymnasts compete at Badger State Games
Two local gymnasts competed for The Kipsters team out of Deutsch’s Gymnastics in Rice Lake at the Badger State Games in Marshfield April 5-7. In Level Four ‘A’, Annika Schlafke of Hayward took seventh place with an overall score of 33.8. She scored 8.2 in the vault, 7.7 in the bars, 9.15 in the beam (sixth place, personal best), and 8.75 in the floor exercise (seventh place). The Kipsters Level Four team took sixth place overall. In Level Three, Junior B, Natalie McCue of Hayward scored 33.35 all-around, including 9.0 in the vault (seventh place), 8.6 n the bars, 8.25 in the beam and 7.5 in the floor exercise.
Rice Lake tops Canes in girls soccer
The Hayward Hurricanes girls soccer team hosted Rice Lake Tuesday April 16 on a cold afternoon at Heidi Friermood Field. The Canes were able to hold off the Warriors for the first 20 minutes of the game. “With the solid defense and game plan in place the girls were playing fantastic,” said Coach Anne Kriskovich. “Unfortunately, the scoring began for Rice Lake when they were able to convert a penalty kick after a player was taken down in the box.” The Warriors came away with an 8-0 win. The Canes traveled to Ashland on April 18, where the host Oredockers won 12-0.
