Canes softball wins three, improves to 6-0

The Hayward Hurricanes softball team posted wins over Chetek, Spooner and Cameron last week to improve their record to 6-0 in Heart O’North Conference play and 8-4 overall.

On Friday April 19, the Hurricanes defeated the Cameron Comets 13-3 at Diane Hedin Field. Brooke Laier pitched the win, giving up four hits and walking two while striking out seven.

Nikki Miller slammed two homers and a single and drove in four runs, Madi Bergschneider and Alli Coddington (double) had two hits apiece, Colby Sprenger had a triple, and Greta Woelber and Kaydee Campbell had one hit apiece;

On Thursday April 18, the Hurricanes rolled past the Spooner Rails 9-2 at Diane Hedin Field. Pitcher Brooke later gave up three hits while striking out five and walking five.

At the plate, Colby Sprenger had three hits, Laier had two doubles, Coddington had a double and single, Miller had two hits, and Bergschneider and Coddington had one hit apiece.

On Tuesday April 16, the Hurricanes shut out the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Bulldogs 16-0 in Chetek. Brooke Laier pitched the win, giving up one hit and striking out seven while walking five.

At the plate, Sprenger had thee hits, Laier had two doubles, Coddington had two hits including a double, Miller had two hits and Bergschneider had one hit.
