SOMERSET, NJ -- Rutgers Prep, the defending champion, scored a run in the top of the eighth inning to snap a tie and went on to a 3-2 baseball victory over Franklin in the first round of the Somerset County Tournament on Monday. Rutgers baseball Johnny Volpe reached a career milestone
On Friday, Rutgers baseball Johnny Volpe reached 200 career hits in a losing effort against Penn State. The Scarlet Knights’ left fielder singled to right field in the fifth inning to capture his 200th career hit. In 43 games this season, Volpe registered 46 hits and 31 RBIs in 151 at-bats for the Scarlet Knights. He produced four home runs and six doubles, striking out 24 times while logging a .305 batting average. SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The fourth-seeded Spotswood High School varsity softball team kicked off the quarterfinal games of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament at the Spotswood High School Varsity Softball Field on Saturday. Spotswood High School hosted all four quarterfinal games this weekend. Spotswood's hopes for a deep run in the county tourney were stopped by the Trojans. Rutgers football recruiting – Connor Howes has had a big spring
Rutgers football offered Connor Howes last week, getting officially involved with an offensive lineman whose recruitment shows no signs of slowing down. The offer from Rutgers for Howes came on May 9, the same day he was also offered by Ole Miss. Late last week, he scheduled official visits for June to both Arkansas and North Carolina State His offer list now includes Arkansas, UCF, FAU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Troy and USF. He was selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. An interesting twist, he is being trained by former Rutgers football offensive lineman Marcus Applefield, who played in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens. Senior Isabella Plath recorded her 100th hit for Raritan in its 18-5 victory against Brick Township in Brick. Raritan (13-7) trailed 5-4 after two innings before scoring 14 unanswered runs the rest of the way. Plath finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and one run while Madison Regiec went 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.
