Waldport Planning Commission OKs proposed housing code changes, now it’s city council’s turn

The Waldport Planning Commission has unanimously approved sweeping proposed changes to the city’s housing code that now moves on to the city council for consideration on Thursday. The proposals are primarily in residential areas and seek to reclassify the current zoning structure of R1, R2, R3 and R4 to one of two categories – either low density or high density – to allow for more types of housing.

Our Third Space brings a bookstore, public house to Veneta

Veneta’s new bookstore is the talk of the town, according to the folks hanging out at the bar on a Thursday afternoon. Music from the 1920s plays in the background as visitors share thoughts on their newest reads, sip drinks and eat burritos from one of the food trucks stationed just outside. Owner Jordan Mackay plays the part of the business’ host well, clad in a flat cap and vest complete with a pocket watch chain, as he welcomes customers, pours drinks and sells books. A step into the space feels almost like a jump back in time. Our Third Space opened Oct. 3 to much joy from the community. Called “perfect” by a patron who occupied an armchair in the bookstore’s living room area, the business provides just what the name implies: a third space where community members across all walks of life can spend time without obligation to spend money. The bar within the used bookstore sells beer, wine, mead and cider, as well as tea and coffee.
