Lincoln County opens the first of two seasonal overnight shelters
Lincoln County opened its first dedicated overnight shelter Tuesday. In winters before this year, Lincoln County nonprofits gave hotel vouchers to people without housing. Now, the county’s Newport location will open every night for six months. Initially, it’ll rotate between two churches. Some time in November, the permanent Community Shelter and Resource Center will open on 7th Street downtown. Spokesperson Kenneth Lipp said the former Crossroads Building needs repair work in order to get it up to code.

(Newport, Oregon) – Part of Newport goes bonkers for the sharks in a couple of weeks, as the Hatfield Marine Science Center and its Big Fish Lab host Sharktoberfest on October 14. More than just eye-popping Oregon coast science (as if that wasn't enough), this event brings food, wine and beer to the conversation about sharks, which includes yummy partnerships with Ultralife Cafe and OSU's Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center. Amid all the culinary frivolity is a series of conversations with shark scientists, along with a showing of a Shark Week film featuring members of the Big Fish Lab research group, a Q&A session, and even a live dissection of a shark. Yachats car wreck Thursday lands Roseburg man in jail
YACHATS – A Roseburg man is in the Lincoln County jail after crashing his car Thursday in Yachats and fleeing into a neighborhood. Oregon State Police were able to track Derick L.
