Newborn discovered dead in North Portland, police say
PORTLAND, Ore. — Police are investigating after a newborn baby was found dead in North Portland's Kenton neighborhood on Friday morning. The Portland Police Bureau said that officers responded around 11 a.m. after receiving reports of a dead infant near North Fenwick Avenue and North Argyle Street, an area tucked between Interstate 5, North Interstate Avenue and North Columbia Boulevard.
Underserved young adults build tiny homes for homeless through Portland nonprofit
PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center (POIC) has operated in Portland for more than 60 years. Currently located at Rosemary Anderson High School in North Portland, POIC offers a free 12-week construction pre-apprenticeship program for people of color and others historically underrepresented in the trade. The program is comprised mostly of young adults 18 or older.

Man sentenced to life in prison for deadly Portland bar stabbing
PORTLAND, Ore. — A judge sentenced a man on Friday to life in prison for murdering a Portland restaurant server at a bar last summer. On July 2, 2023, Rahnique Jackson stabbed and killed 32-year-old Colin Smith near Southwest 12th Avenue and Madison Street in Southeast Portland. Smith had gotten off work at Ox Restaurant and went to a bar with friends, according to a family friend. The group was harassed by a man who used homophobic slurs, according to the family friend. Someone in the group was a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and Smith had stood up for that person, the family friend said.
Iconic Portland Drag Club Darcelle XV Is at Risk of Closing
The Oregonian reports that Darcelle XV Showplace, a beloved, longstanding Portland drag club, is at risk of shutting down due to poor attendance during its usual peak season. One of the co-hosts and performers at Darcelle XV, Kevin Cook, who performs under the name Poison Waters, told the publication that summer is often the busiest time of year for the club, but that this season has been an outlier.
