Here is something I would like to vote on in November:. A $120 million jail/courthouse in downtown someplace; and that Benton County could agree to $70 million for low-cost homes and $50 million for a paved bike path to Monroe via the railroad tracks we own, and to Albany via Riverside Drive, widening to 4-foot lanes both ways.

This week in Benton County, Oregon, there were three notable incidents. First, a car and grass fire near Philomath led to the arrest of two individuals for reckless endangerment, driving under the influence, and other charges. Second, two suspects were arrested in connection with an armed home invasion that occurred earlier this year in Corvallis. Lastly, a crash on Plymouth Drive resulted in a DUII and reckless driving arrest.

More money is coming to Lincoln and Benton Counties to address housing and homelessness – but not as much as we need. The housing conversation began early in the 2023 legislative session. Governor Kotek declared a housing and homelessness state of emergency. I was happy the issue of unhoused was being addressed. But as chair of the Coastal Caucus, it fell to me to point out that Lincoln, Tillamook, and Benton Counties did not benefit from the Order. Overall, 26 rural counties were left out. I’m a rural and coastal legislator, I told the legislature. It’s important to me that our efforts reach all parts of the state. Homelessness is not an urban problem. It is an Oregon problem.

Crest Kerfuffle: Tonight’s City Council meeting features a public hearing over a 35 home, 17 acre development in the affluent Timberhill area. The Crest subdivision is slated for atop 29th Street, and was approved by the City Planning Division in August. What the Council will hear tonight is an appeal filed by Rachel Purcell, Pamela Burnor and William Buckley.
