Christian County resident has confirmed case of measles, DHSS says
A Christian County resident has a confirmed case of measles, according to a Nov. 5 news release from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services . The resident contracted measles following an exposure to the illness in another Missouri county, the news release said, and those who have been exposed are being contacted. No additional public exposures have been reported. “With this case, we can no longer view measles as a disease of faraway places or the distant past,” said Christian County Health Administrator Aaron Winslow in the news release. “It has arrived in our community. While it appears that this case will not ignite a community outbreak, due mainly to the exceptional efforts of state and local public health officials, we may not be so fortunate next time. While we will redouble our efforts to prepare for response, the best way to prevent community outbreaks and spare us from the negative health and economic impacts that have been seen in other states is to achieve community immunity through vaccination.” Here's what to know about what measles is, how it spreads , how to stay safe from it , how to know if you need a vaccine , measles
