WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Not a bad start for the first day of May. More rounds for rain arrive Thursday, then temperatures warming over the weekend for the Fishing Opener. A damp start to the day Wednesday as rain from the overnight hours have cleared the region. Mild temperatures in the 50s for the morning hours. Highs by the afternoon will warm to the low 60s. It is possible for some to warm towards the mid to upper 60s if sunshine arrives early enough. Plan for clouds to decrease throughout the day. As a low-pressure approaches, winds turn gusty. West winds will gust up to 30 mph.

Healthfirst Network announces grand opening of mental health facility
A new mental health resource is opening in Wausau with a grand opening set for Thursday. Healthfirst Network, Inc., a network of reproductive health and WIC clinics, is committed to continually looking for ways to reduce the burden of lack of access and health disparities that our communities face. In the spring of 2023, Healthfirst Network Leadership identified the lack of access to mental health care as a large burden and disparity within our communities. So, in September of 2023, Healthfirst Network took significant steps towards increasing access to mental health care, by breaking ground for facility expansion to add and accommodate mental health services at their Wausau location.
Wisconsin Valley Fair admission tickets now on sale in person and online
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - From rides, live music, many different foods, and animals, it’s an annual tradition for many in north central Wisconsin and starting Wednesday you can get your admission tickets to the Wisconsin Valley Fair. Fair Administrator Jodi Langenhahn says that all ticket prices have increased by $2, but it is still cheaper to get them now rather than later. Season admission tickets go on sale today. They are $22 throughout the whole month of May. After May, they will be $27 until July 29 at 4 p.m. If you wait to buy it at the gate, you will pay $30.
Wausau Salvation Army shifts course to serving families only
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - The Salvation Army of Wausau plays a crucial role in helping people get back on their feet, but now they are transitioning who exactly they are helping. Starting this week, they are transitioning into only helping families. That means the individuals they work with will be moved out of their facility to other shelters or even into housing of their own.

Weston playgrounds get much needed updates and improvements
WESTON, Wis. (WSAW) - Two well-known parks in Weston are getting some much-needed updates just in time for summer. The updates include modern playground equipment. Everything at Kennedy Park will be replaced except a gifted bench. Yellow Banks Park will be turned into an athletic challenge course. The village said Weston is ready to add something different to their parks. They want more than just monkey bars, a swing set, and slides. That’s why Yellow Banks is on the list for a complete renovation.
Chick-fil-A truck coming to Wausau on Thursday
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - The Chick-fil-A Tri-State food truck will make its way to Wausau on Thursday, May 2. It will be at County Market on S. 18 Avenue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The food truck has been making the rounds throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa to cities where there is no Chick-fil-A.
