FINDLAY — In the beginning stages of the 2023-24 season, the Liberty-Benton girls basketball team is in the midst of a bit of a transition, with first-year head coach Chad Lieb taking over for highly successful coach Nate Irwin, but Lieb has a wealth of experience in the program, creating a feeling of familiarity moving forward. Early returns have been good, as the Eagles moved to 3-1 Monday night with a 70-26 home rout of Northern Buckeye Conference preseason favorite Fostoria (1-3). Lauren Gerken and Addi Crow led the way for Liberty-Benton with 17 points each, while Corra Dehart added 13 points and Lindsay May had 12. Lyrique Johnson paced Fostoria with 13 points as the Redmen played without star junior Alycia Middlebrooks, who was injured early in the first game of the season.

Explosive items recovered by bomb squad after being called out to Seneca County Sheriff's Office
TIFFIN, Ohio — The Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad was called out to the Seneca County Sheriff's Office in Tiffin on Wednesday to dispose of explosive items in their possession. Sheriff Fredrick Stevens contacted the bomb squad and they gathered a military mortar shell, two "M&M" grenade kits and two cans of smokeless powder. The military mortar shell appeared to be functional, according to the bomb squad.
