Power line projects approved for Fulton, Hancock counties
The Ohio Power Siting Board has approved construction of two electricity transmission lines in Hancock and Fulton counties. One will run about 2.4 miles along Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in Washington Township, southwest of Fostoria, to connect the South Branch Solar generating facility with American Electric Power’s Fostoria Central substation. The other will travel about 9.5 miles through York, Pike, and Fulton townships and include American Transmission Systems, Inc.’s new Melbourne Substation on a 9-acre site near the Worthington Steel complex on County Road 10 as well as the transmission line up to and then along the Ohio Turnpike to connect with an existing transmission line on the west side of Swanton.
Wood county man killed in motorcycle crash
A Wood County man was killed Thursday night when the motorcycle he was operating slammed into the rear of a semi-tractor trailer on I-75 in Perrysburg Township. Aaron D. Gardner, 21, of West Millgrove, Ohio, was southbound on I-75 near Reitz Road at 11:38 p.m. when he accelerated at a high rate of speed and lost control, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The 2024 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle Mr. Gardner was operating veered from the left lane into the right lane where it struck the rear of a semi being driven by Albert G. Woodley, 64, of Farmington Hills, Mich. Mr. Gardner was thrown from the motorcycle and was struck by another vehicle. Mr. Gardner was wearing a helmet and protective gear at the time of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Playground for all children: Bowling Green principal pursues funding for equipment
BOWLING GREEN — As 5-year-old Lucas Boltz tries to make his way to the Conneaut Elementary playground, his wheelchair bumps along the dirt path, then comes to a shaky halt on the mulch surface. It’s tough going for children with disabilities like Lucas who are try to navigate the path to the playground, then get up and down one of the slides, clamber onto a swing, or tunnel through a tiny fire truck. “As you can see, he is struggling on the rocks,” said principal Alyssa Karaffa. “And once he gets there, he can’t do anything.” Children like Lucas motivated Mrs. Karaffa to pursue more than a dozen grants and community donations totaling $24,000 to buy new equipment for the school playground. The five pieces will be installed this summer and ready for the 2024-25 academic year. There will also be an asphalt path.

Montgomery, the All-Blade Player of the Year and a first-team All-Ohio honoree, is rated as a four-star prospect in the Class of 2025 and fielded offers from a long list of major college programs. He verbally committed to Georgia on April 17 after narrowing his list to Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina.
