Bluffton Legion to donate to non-profits
BLUFFTON — The Bluffton American Legion Post 382 will host a donation ceremony at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5 at the Legion post, 405 N. Spring St., Bluffton. Lima NAACP holds meeting on lead abatement licensing
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Area residents getting educated on the issue of lead in Allen County homes and what they can do to help. The NAACP held a training session on Friday, showing people what steps to take in order to get their lead abatement license. The class was led by Keith Lockhart, a liaison and contractor for the Ohio Department of Development. Those with a lead abatement license will be certified to properly inspect and remove lead from homes in materials like paint on walls and in window frames. Lead has been shown to cause a long list of health problems. Organizers say with such a serious potential danger, it's important to educate, train, and certify local residents so they can fix these problems before it's too late.

A Lima teen crashes a stolen car during a high speed chase on I-75
ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - A Lima teen was arrested after wrecking a stolen car in a high-speed chase overnight. Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol say that 16-year-old Ryan Aab was driving a car that was reported stolen in the northbound lane of I-75. When he didn't stop, Aab led police on an 11-mile chase into Hancock County. Findlay troopers aided in the chase, which ended when the teen hit the back of a pickup truck southwest of Findlay and his vehicle rolled over. No one in the pickup was injured, but Aab had minor injuries. He is currently in the Allen County Juvenile Detention Center. The prosecutor's office will review the case for further charges.
AARP awards grant to Go Ottawa
OTTAWA — AARP announced that Go Ottawa has received a 2024 Community Challenge grant. Go Ottawa will conduct at least three bike audits that will result in recommendations for making both walking and biking safer.
