Toledo women's rally falls short against Michigan State before big crowd at Savage Arena
With a Big Ten opponent and a big crowd, the stage was set for a big afternoon Saturday at Savage Arena. Michigan State had other ideas. A fast Toledo start and a spirited late rally weren't quite enough as the Rockets came up short, 72-64, before a crowd of 4,543. UT (0-2) ultimately had few answers for Michigan State star guard Kennedy Blair, who had a game-high 28 points and 11 rebounds to help the Spartans (2-0) build an 18-point lead in the third quarter and hold off a late push by the hosts. Jyah LoVett led Toledo with 16 points; Kendall Carruthers and Evalyse Cole added 14 and 12 points, respectively. “Thank you to everyone who came out today,” Toledo coach Ginny Boggess said. “An incredible crowd for a very good opponent. High school cross country girls Lily Kiser runs with Ross history in her heart Coach Scott Stecher knew Woodmore would have to capitalize when it had the ball. "Being old school, time of possession is huge," he said. "We ran six plays in the first half. That hurt. Scoring first didn't concern us. We've been there. We had opportunities, to score and make it a game at the end of the first half and coming out with the ball to start the second half. "We didn't cash in." Woodmore earned a first-round bye after winning 10 games in the regular season for the second time in program history. It finished first in the Sandusky Bay
