Snoop Dogg to perform in Toledo July 19
Hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg will celebrate 30 years since his multi-Platinum-selling album Doggystyle at the Huntington Center on July 19. Produced by Dr. Dre, Doggystyle was one of the biggest selling albums of the G-funk era of hip-hop, featuring such hits as “Doggy Dogg World” and “Gin and Juice.” Rappers Wiz Khalifa and Ying Yang Twins will join Snoop Dogg in Toledo. Tickets, $59 to $199.50, go on sale this Friday via Ticketmaster and through the Huntington Center box office. The venue is at 500 Jefferson Ave., Toledo. A new restaurant has opened in Toledo
A new restaurant has come to the city of Toledo. On June 2, the restaurant Bertha Mae's Kitchen celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting in Toledo. Bertha Mae's Kitchen is a new venture from owners Pam DeWalt and Nolan Hych, who were able to open the restaurant with the help of a business loan from the Economic and Community Development Institute (ECDI) and Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union (TUFCU).
TPD: Teens break into Toledo house, one points gun at officer
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Two teenagers are accused of breaking into a Toledo home, with one of them allegedly pointing a gun at officers once confronted. According to Toledo Police records, officers responded to a report of multiple suspects breaking into a home on Magyar Street just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. An officer was checking out a broken window outside as one of the teens came around a corner on the inside of the house and pointed a gun at the officer. The suspect then immediately retreated further into the house.
Early morning house fire in west Toledo Wednesday, TFRD investigating
TOLEDO, Ohio — TFRD is investigating what caused flames to rip through a family's home in west Toledo Wednesday morning. Toledo Fire & Rescue Department received a call just before 4:30 a.m. about a massive fire at a home on Hawk Street near Lewis Avenue. Firefighters say no one was home at the time of the blaze.
At-home daycare owner facing child endangerment charges, multi-million dollar lawsuit
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - A Toledo woman running a daycare out of her home is facing a charge of Child Endangerment after an incident with a 3-month-old baby in her care. According to court records, Yvonne Makey is facing charges of child endangerment as well as a 10-million-dollar civil lawsuit from the family of the infant.
Traffic change set for Anthony Wayne Trail
Traffic will be shifted Wednesday along part of the Anthony Wayne Trail that is being rebuilt. Inbound traffic will return to its normal lanes between Detroit and Glendale Avenues, the Toledo Department of Transportation Department said, but lane closings will remain until mid-July when the project is finished. Separately on Wednesday, Moran Avenue will close between Nebraska Avenue and Dorr Street for four weeks, Inverness Avenue will close between Searles road and Moran, and for two weeks, Woodland Avenue will close between Detroit and Junction avenues.
Two seriously injured after North Toledo shooting
Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries following a shooting on Monday afternoon in North Toledo but police said they were expected to survive. The shooting occurred about 5:20 p.m. in front of the Beer Dock, a liquor store at 932 N. Huron St. Dajuan Smith, 28, was taken to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in a car before authorities arrived. Diamond Horton, 22, was also struck and sought help at Covenant House down the street, before she was also taken to St. Vincent. The circumstances of the shooting were not clear Tuesday. An investigation was ongoing.
Three suspects accused of robbing south Toledo clothing store, assaulting witness
TOLEDO, Ohio — Authorities are investigating after three suspects allegedly robbed a south Toledo clothing store and assaulted an employee Sunday evening. According to a Toledo police report, crews responded to a clothing store in the 1800 block of S. Reynolds Road at approximately 6 p.m. regarding a robbery. A witness told police three suspects entered the store and began stealing items. When she confronted the suspects, one of them struck her in the face.
TPD: Two people shot, hospitalized after north Toledo incident Monday evening
TOLEDO, Ohio — Two people were hospitalized with what police described as a serious injuries after a shooting occurred in north Toledo Monday evening. According to a Toledo police report, crews responded to a ShotSpotter alert for nine rounds fired near LaGrange Street and N. Huron Street and a call for a person shot at approximately 5:17 p.m. Police said they determined a shooting occurred in front of a store in the 900 block of N. Huron.
Help sessions upcoming for Toledo's rental assistance program
Applications continue to be accepted for Toledo’s rental assistance program and help sessions are scheduled at local libraries in the coming weeks. Rental assistance experts will be available to answer questions next week at the Mott branch of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library. The sessions are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, and 12:30 to 4 p.m. June 15. Another help session will be available later this month at the Main Library downtown, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 27, and 12:30 to 4 p.m. June 29. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program can help with up to 15 months of rent costs, as well as fees, security deposits, and utility costs.
Toledo Police want to link to business, home security cameras
Fighting today’s crime requires 21st century technology, and the Toledo Police Department says that involves camera access. City officials on Tuesday unveiled Link Toledo, a new camera program that asks business owners and residents to voluntarily connect their security system cameras to the TPD system. A business interested in participating in the program would use its existing camera but would buy a small device and subscription service through Fusus, an outside police software program, which then allows the system to link to the police camera system. Residents who want to voluntarily participate in the program would register with police, alerting them that they have a home security camera. Then, if a crime were to occur near their home, police could contact the homeowner to access potential camera footage.
Lowell B. Yoder: founder of a Holland machinery business and a volunteer for church and community
Lowell B. Yoder, founder of a Holland machinery business and a volunteer for church and community, who led trips to aid Haiti and Poland, died Sunday in his Springfield Township home. He was 93. He suffered a stroke several months ago and was in declining health, said his wife, Marylin Yoder. Mr. Yoder began Yoder Machinery Co. in 1958 after working as bookkeeper for a machinery company near downtown Toledo. “He wanted to get in business for himself. He knew it would be a hard start,” Mrs. Yoder said Tuesday.
Coroner's office seeks family of two Toledo men
The Lucas County Coroner's Office is asking for the public's help in finding family members for two Toledo residents recently found dead in separate cases. Michael Miller, 45, died May 27 and was found on the living room couch. Officials said his last known address was in the 1300 block of South Avenue. Robert Spiegel, 72, died May 29 and was found on his living room floor at his home in the 700 block of Chicago Street. A cause of death was not specified in either case.
