West Virginia state trooper fatally shot, suspect caught after extensive search
BEECH CREEK, W.Va. (AP) — A state police officer was fatally shot Friday in southern West Virginia, and a suspect later was arrested, authorities said. Sgt. Cory Maynard was killed in the shooting, Gov. Jim Justice said in a statement, adding that he was “absolutely heartbroken.” He and first lady Cathy Justice extended their sympathies to Maynard’s family.

Woman Charged With Endangering The Welfare Of A Minor
A Hopkinsville woman was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and cruelty to animals during a warrant arrest on Sands Drive Friday morning. Hopkinsville Police say they went to the home to arrest 42-year-old Pamela Comperry on a warrant for contempt of court and she put items in front of the front door preventing officers from making entry.

Pursuit, attempted murder suspect waives preliminary hearing
The attempted murder case against Cody Alire now heads the grand jury, after a preliminary hearing was waived in Christian District Court Friday morning. Alire is facing numerous charges in relation to a high-speed, multi-county pursuit that took place May 24, including three counts of attempted murder of a police officer, two counts of attempted first-degree assault, 15 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, receiving a stolen firearm, felony receiving stolen property, fleeing or evading police, speeding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.
