Escondido’s Fire Department Update
On July 17, firefighters were dispatched to W. Valley Parkway and Auto Parkway for a possible gas leak. Construction workers had struck a gas line while digging. Workers quickly evacuated the immediate area, with no reports of illness. Fire crews arrived and began air monitoring in the area to ensure gas was not accumulating. SDG&E were notified to assist, and ultimately secured the gas line within 20 minutes.

News Release - Emergency Repair of the Escondido Trunk Sewer Main
On June 20, 2024, a local emergency was proclaimed by the City Manager, serving in his role as the Director of Emergency Services, in order to act quickly to prevent catastrophic failure of the City’s compromised and severely deteriorated trunk sewer main, which could lead to sinkholes; raw sewage spills; and possible damage to nearby utilities infrastructure. This allowed City staff to work directly with contractors to address the necessary repairs. Emergency repairs to the existing 18-inch and 21-inch trunk sewer main in two sections, shown in Figure 1 and described below, will tentatively begin on July 25, 2024.
