Wildcat football wants to explore uncharted territory
A victory over Forest Lake would put Eagan in state quarterfinals for the first time Of the 32 Minnesota high school programs playing Class 6A football in 2025, 31 have been in the state playoffs before. Eagan’s players and coaches don’t mind talking about this, even though the Wildcats are the exception as the program that has never been to the state quarterfinals. Since Nick Johnson took over as head coach in 2019, the Wildcats have had making it to state as a goal. Seven years ago, that seemed far-fetched; Eagan was 1-26 in the three seasons before Johnson was hired. Now the goal is no longer in the distance. The Wildcats can achieve it with one more victory. With 10 seconds left in the half, Parker West hit Jameson for a 10-yard touchdown to take a 14-7 lead. The Royals tied it up in the second half right away thanks to a 52-yard catch and run from Derrick Harris to Andres Cardenas. The extra point tied the game, and the Royals were in business
