An 18-year-old from Pelican Rapids is facing several charges after a crash
OTTER TAIL COUNTY, Minn. An 18-year-old from Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, is facing several charges after a crash in Otter Tail County over the weekend. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as Brock Thomas Hasling. According to Minnesota court records, he is charged with criminal vehicular operation, DWI, leaving the scene of a crash and obstructing the legal process. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a crash around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 17. Court documents say the passenger called emergency officials because he was injured and stuck inside the vehicle. He also said that Hasling left the scene and went to a home nearby. When officers arrived on scene, they found a pickup truck with significant damage that had crashed into trees. Others on the scene told officers that they had all been at a party and were consuming alcohol, court documents state. The passenger had to be airlifted to the hospital. Officers later learned that he had two broken knuckles and torn tendons, which required surgery. Officers went to a nearby home and were allowed inside to search for Hasling. They were told that he was hiding in a crawl space and refused to come out. Emergency responders were preparing to cut the opening to the crawl space, when they say Hasling came out and was arrested. According to court documents, officers say Hasling had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol coming from him. A preliminary breath test showed a blood-alcohol content of .117. Hasling was booked into the Otter Tail County Jail. His first court appearance was on February 20 where a judge set bail at $20,000 with no conditions or $10,000 with conditions. He may post $1,000 and be released.
