There has been much speculation regarding Deion Sanders' future in college football as rumors swirled about a potential jump to the NFL. Others speculated that Sanders would retire after his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, declare for the NFL draft next season.

During an appearance on the All The Smoke podcast, Sanders addressed the speculation and made a shocking statement about his future in Boulder with Colorado.

"Most people ask me, 'What you gonna do when they're out, you're going to the pros together?' I said, 'A real father leads his sons, he doesn't follow them,'" Sanders said. "So I'm good; I'll be here. I ain't going nowhere, I'm straight, I love Boulder, Colorado, and I cannot wait till they go into the NFL and do their thing."

Sanders was also asked where his family would be in the next five to 10 years.

"The kids will be in the pros, and I'll be here," Sanders responded.

The potential to keep Sanders as the head coach for the next five to 10 seasons would be massive for the Buffaloes. The program has not won a conference championship since 2001 and has only won one national title (1990).

Sanders led Colorado to a 4-8 record in his first season as head coach. The Buffaloes started strong, winning their first three games, but lost eight of the final nine games to end the season.

Colorado will return to the Big 12 this season as the Buffaloes look to continue to improve under Sanders. The Buffaloes will kick off the 2024 season against North Dakota State on Aug. 29 at Folsom Field.
