Centrus ships first American made centrifuge from Oak Ridge to Ohio

The staff at Centrus Technology and Manufacturing Center at 400 Centrifuge Way in Oak Ridge on Oct. 29 joined politicians, along with company and government leaders, in celebrating the shipment of the first new American-made, advanced AC100M centrifuge as part of Centrus Energy Corp.’s multibillion-dollar expansion. The company is expanding its capacity to make thousands of gas centrifuges in Oak Ridge and to use those machines in the plant the company has been enlarging in Ohio to enrich uranium at traditional and higher concentrations for future nuclear power plants housing conventional or next-generation, advanced reactors. Pieces of the gas centrifuge have been shipped by truck to Centrus Energy’s American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio, where the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant previously enriched uranium. According to a Centrus Energy news release, the ceremony marked a milestone in which expanded centrifuge manufacturing in Tennessee is connected with uranium enrichment expansion in Ohio “to rebuild America’s nuclear fuel supply chain. Lancaster apartments ​for rent saw price increases since last September

Renters in Lancaster saw apartment listing prices increase 13% from September 2025's median of $1,100, an analysis of new data from rental marketplace Zumper shows. The typical apartment listed for rent at $1,245 in September. Median listing prices in Lancaster are trending 4% upwards from the previous month's $1,200 price. The data covers all bedroom sizes, ranging from studios to four-bedroom units, within the specified metropolitan area. It reflects the median rent for all listings that were active at any given point during the month, according to Russell Middleton, co-founder of Zumper. Historic Lancaster shoe factory reborn as 60-unit luxury apartment complex

LANCASTER − The former Fairfield Shoe Company building at 219 N. Columbus St. is no longer just sitting and deteriorating. It is now a 60-unit luxury apartment complex with the retail set to open later on the first floor. The building is now called The Shumaker because of its past as a shoe factory and city's German history. It also once housed the Essex Wire Company. It sat vacant for about 20 years before Urban Restorations converted it into the apartment building loaded with amenities. The second- and third-floor residential units are complete, so work is now focused on making the ground floor suitable for commercial tenants. The project cost is around $20 million or so. Some history The building's last occupant was Fairfield Industries, then a division of the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities. It moved out of the building in 2005 and the building had stood vacant until the renovation started in 2023. The building dates to between 1900 and 1910 when it was originally the Fairfield Shoe Company. The Essex Wire Company bought it in 1947. Urban Restorations President Bob Schilling previously said the building's industrial look will be built into the renovation, which it was.

Ross, Pike County data centers differ greatly in size, power and water use

CHILLICOTHE— Data centers, data centers, data centers. Between the proposed data center in Chillicothe and the data center being built in Pike County it can feel like all anyone is talking about is data centers. That doesn't even begin to include all the conversations about the other data centers being built and either supported or protested by communities around the country. With so much talk, it is easy to get confused, especially when you are talking about two sites so close together, like the ones in Ross and Pike counties, which are less than 40 miles apart. Both of these projects involve turning brownfield sites into data centers, but that is largely where the similarities stop. Based on what project leaders from both sites have said, the centers will vastly vary in size, energy and water usage and more.
