The 2024 Spring Faire at Bacon’s Castle portraying life in the early 1500s is set for May 4, and promises to be better than ever according to Site Coordinator Carol Weidel. “Once again, the popular Tidewater Dogs of War will be demonstrating Armored Combat and talking about the history of the sport, weapons, performing duels, and interacting with the crowd including answering questions,” Weidel began.

This week, multiple City Council meetings are on the books for Hopewell, Petersburg and Colonial Heights. A couple of these meetings will be closed to the public, including a closed special city council meeting in Petersburg on May 1 and in Colonial Heights on May 7. A regular city council meeting is also on the books for Petersburg on May 7. Hopewell's City Council meeting, meanwhile, will be a joint meeting with the city's School Board to discuss the School Board's budget.
Colonial Heights Police: Shooting death of Hopewell woman at riverside park is a homicide
COLONIAL HEIGHTS – Police have released the identity of a woman found shot to death April 18 at a riverside park. Police Sgt. Desiree McCurry said 36-year-old Cynthia Chante’ “Cint” Solomon of Hopewell was discovered by a boater on the bank at Roslyn Landing Park. That boater told police he was fishing on the Appomattox River about 5 a.m. when he heard a gunshot followed by the sound of something hitting the water. He went in the direction of the noise and found what he thought was a body submerged in the river.
