    Homicide investigation is underway after woman found dead in Appomattox River in Colonial Heights

    COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities in Colonial Heights are conducting a homicide investigation after a woman, now identified as 36-year-old Cynthia Chantè Solomon , was found dead with a gunshot wound at Roslyn Landing Park last week.

    Police responded to a call at Roslyn Landing Park at around 5 a.m. on Thursday, April 18th. Upon arrival, officials found the body of Solomon, a resident of Hopewell, near the riverbank of the Appomattox River.

    Reports indicate that a boater heard a gunshot and splash into the water near the area before he contacted authorities.

    On Saturday, April 27, family and friends gathered to honor Solomon’s life during an open casket ceremony . According to her obituary , she was described as having a personality of gold, and was known for lighting up any room she entered.

    Solomon was a beloved member of her community, attending school in Hopewell and dedicating herself to activities such as cooking, styling hair and caring for children.

    Despite ongoing efforts by law enforcement, numerous questions remain unanswered regarding the circumstances surrounding Solomon’s death.

    Authorities have yet to release information about the events that led up to the shooting, the identity of a suspect or if there was a motive behind the crime as they continue to investigate.

    The incident has deeply affected the community, with residents expressing shock and concern over the tragedy.

    Stefany Spencer, a frequent visitor to the park, remarked on the impact the incident has had, emphasizing that such violence should never go unnoticed or without consequence.

    “I can see something like this being impactful on the community like this, you know, people are still enjoying the park but it is going to [have an] effect,” Spencer said. “As it should, because nothing like this should happen and not affect the community.”

    Solomon leaves behind two daughters, along with numerous family members and friends.
