Hopewell names city police veteran as interim chief
HOPEWELL – A longtime city police officer is being brought out of retirement to serve as Hopewell’s interim police chief. It’s actually the second time around as interim chief for Greg Taylor. Information concerning reassessment notices to Surry County property owners is now available on the county’s website, addressing how the reassessments have been formulated. Also provided are several related documents as well as an exhaustive list of qualified real estate sales occurring in 2022 within Surry County with the corresponding price detail showing value benchmarks in the various County neighborhoods. The indication is that the listed property sales were given the most weight by the assessor, but that other older County sales with appropriate trending could be considered as well.

Petersburg music scene hits high note: New concert series

Friday Flow at Ironworks is created by Petersburg resident Jenifer "Jen" Lowery who teaches art at N.B. Clements Junior High School in Prince George. Hopewell council takes the wind out of sails to revamp city marina for now
HOPEWELL – City Council sank any plans for a refurbished marina Tuesday night, at least for the foreseeable future. Through a series of votes and numerous questions about parliamentary procedures, a majority of councilors decided now was not the time to spend as much as $1.4 million on redoing the marina along the Appomattox River. The decision council eventually reached was to hold off applying for a federal matching grant to develop more recreational space on the marina site, but spend $20,000 on an environmental study that would have been needed regardless of what the future holds for the marina.
Colonial Heights Police searching for suspect after $14,700 check fraud at Truist Bank
According to the Colonial Heights Police, an unknown female went into a Truist Bank at 810 Southpark Boulevard and withdrew $4,960 from the victim's account. She then obtained a $9,800 cashier's check, which was later cashed at a Norfolk bank.
