COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — A 63-year-old Hopewell man was found dead on Monday, three days after he failed to check into a Colonial Heights adult activity center.

On Friday, April 26, the Colonial Heights Police Department put out a missing person alert for Floyd Vines, a 63-year-old man from Hopewell.

According to police, Vines was picked up by a bus at a Hopewell group home at about 8 a.m. Friday. He was last seen when that bus dropped him off at 9 a.m. at an adult activity center in the 2700 block of Boulevard. However, he reportedly never checked in.

Later that day, at 5 p.m., staff at the group home did not see Vines return on the bus. According to a spokesperson for the Colonial Heights Police Department, group home staff then contacted the activity center, who said they had not seen Vines at all that day.

At that time, the group home contacted police to report Vines missing.

On Monday, April 29, the Petersburg Bureau of Police released information on a death investigation after a Black male was found dead in the 300 block of Industrial Drive in Petersburg.

The Colonial Heights Police Department then identified that man as Vines in an April 30 press release.

Currently, investigators with both agencies are looking into how Vines arrived in Petersburg, as well as the circumstances surrounding his death.

According to the release, Vines may have been seen walking in the 2000 block of Boulevard around 9:45 a.m. Friday, and then again later in the 600 block at about 10:30 a.m., walking southbound.

Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact the Colonial Heights Police Department at 804-520-9329.

No other information is available at this time.
