Bronco Federal Credit Union recently awarded 10 area high school seniors who are members with scholarships to help them begin their higher education journeys. These seniors hail from Franklin High School, Windsor High School, Southampton High School, Southampton Academy and Smithfield High School.

A BFCU news release noted that the presentations of awards were made at the BFCU’s Annual Meeting on April 23 at Camp Community College’s Regional Workforce Development Center in Franklin.

This year’s program awarded two $5,000 scholarships, two $3,000 scholarships, one $2,000 scholarship and five $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors.

Alanna Boone of Franklin High School and Jenna Garris of Windsor High School are the recipients of the $5,000 John Alan Glasgow Memorial Scholarships. This scholarship is named in memory of John Alan Glasgow, recognizing the scholastic and life achievements of a graduating student who was part of Franklin High School’s Class of 1999.

Jada Brittle of Windsor High School is the recipient of the $3,000 James C. Copeland Scholarship, and Addison Swenson of Southampton High School is the recipient of a $3,000 scholarship known as the Charles A. Wrenn Scholarship. Both scholarships are named in honor of past board chairmen who served 30-plus years on the Bronco Federal Credit Union Board.

Emma Rickman of Southampton Academy was awarded the $2,000 Robert T. Petty Scholarship. This scholarship honors the memory of Robert T. Petty, past CEO of Bronco Federal Credit Union.

In addition, Christopher Cornwell Jr. of Southampton High School, Joshua Edwards of Southampton High School, Sophia Hewitt of Smithfield High School, Justin Preau of Southampton High School and Chloe Sawyer of Southampton High School each received a $1,000 scholarship from Bronco Federal Credit Union.

BFCU officials noted that the 2024 scholarship winners have demonstrated excellent community and extracurricular activity involvement as well as strong academics throughout their high school careers.

Bronco Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that was founded in 1941 and is headquartered in Franklin. Bronco Federal Credit Union serves the Hampton Roads community and employs 53 team members, both in Franklin and Suffolk.

“Providing quality financial services to more than 18,000 members through three locations will always be the No. 1 priority,” BFCU officials stated in the release.
