Zac Brown Band brings Vegas energy to town, topping a busy metro area music weekend

It’s been a year of love, fear and a lot of work for Zac Brown and the band that bears his name. During the past 11 months, the Zac Brown band released its ambitious ninth studio album, “Love & Fear” — the first Brown produced entirely by himself — and supported it with eight shows at the Sphere in Las Vegas during December and January. And since July, the Grammy Award-winning group, which has 14 No. 1 Country singles to its credit, has been on the road with a show designed to bring some of the Sphere flavor to more modest venues.

Sarnie’s Deli & Pantry in downtown Toledo is set up perfectly as a lunch spot, with a menu full of sandwiches and salads. According to its Facebook page, the bread is baked daily, the salads and sauces are made using local ingredients, and the cookies are baked from scratch. The attention to quality was noticeable during our visits, with everything tasting fresh and well-made. It’s a newer restaurant in the downtown area, but based on our experiences, we hope it sticks around for a long time. This is a good time of year for a short drive. For a worthwhile adventure, take Airport Highway west into Swanton, Ohio. DeEtte’s Dream Diner sits a bit off the beaten path. Pulling up, the building doesn’t look like much from the outside. My son reminded me not to judge a book by its cover. “Maybe it’s cool in there,” he said. And he was right! Past the colorful metal rooster greeting visitors (along with a season-appropriate plastic skeleton dressed like a farmer), the door opens into an extremely warm environment.
