Adrian murder case to stay in Lenawee County Circuit Court
ADRIAN — A murder case against a man accused of taking part in a shooting that killed another man in February 2023 in Adrian will proceed in Lenawee County Circuit Court. Circuit Judge Michael R. Olsaver on Wednesday denied a motion to quash the bindover from Lenawee County District Court of open murder and firearms charges against Kenyatto Tiwaine Sylvertooth, 48, of Detroit. Sylvertooth and Gage Michael Winsett, 18, of Adrian are each charged in the death of 27-year-old Jonathan Marquise Simmons of Detroit. Simmons was shot in an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles on the afternoon of Feb. 13, 2023, near the intersection of South Tecumseh and Frank streets.

Tecumseh school board approves bond placement for community pool infrastructure updates
TECUMSEH, Mich. — The Tecumseh Public Schools board of education unanimously approved at Monday's board meeting the placement of a bond for updates to the community pool. TPS said the ten-year, .40 mills bond will be put on the Aug. 6 primary ballot. The upgrades are an estimated $2.5 million financial endeavor that will address "crucial" repairs to the Tecumseh Community Memorial Pool.
Longtime Lenawee County educator David Pray remembered as 'champion for public education'
CLINTON — Many Lenawee County school districts are mourning the loss of a man who has been described as a “champion for public education.”. David Pray, 77, of Clinton died Thursday, April 18, at the Hospice of Lenawee Home in Adrian. Memorial visitations for Pray were held Monday at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. A celebration of life service will take place today at 3:03 p.m. at the Clinton High School gymnasium, with visitation from 1:01 p.m. to the time of the celebration of life, Pray’s obituary stated.

Hammer-wielding man arrested after breaking into Southwest Michigan house
VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI -- A man has been arrested after breaking into a house and trying to fight off police when they arrived to confront him. Van Buren County Sheriff deputies made contact with the man around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22 in the 51000 block of County Road 380 in Columbia Township, according to a press release. He put up a fight, as police had to force their way into the house to get him, per the release.

Once the recruit and the members arrived at the designated location, other Black Legion members showed up and a terrifying initial ritual commenced. The recruit was forced to kneel, surrounded by Black Legion members, a loaded gun was held to his head, and he was forced to swear a loyalty oath under penalty of death. At its conclusion, he was given a bullet to remind him what would happen to him or his loved ones if he didn’t follow Black Legion commands.
