Remembering graduations past
It was 78 years ago when 160 Adrian High School graduates tossed their caps and tassels in the air and faced a whole new world. This year’s graduating class numbered 150. A second graduating class numbering 41 is composed of graduates who left school for one reason or the other and returned to earn their diplomas. I commend my alma mater for giving these students a second chance to receive an education. As members of the class of 1946, we were sure we were the best. After all, we had survived World War II and the discomforts that went with it. When I shared in the 2024 graduation activities recently, I think the fun, fear, and friendships seemed like yesterday.

Whiteford baseball falls short in 12-inning Division 3 regional final against Ann Arbor Greenhills
ADRIAN — One of the most successful seasons in Whiteford baseball history came to a heartbreaking end in a wild 12-inning contest on Saturday. The Bobcats built an early 3-0 lead and overcame an Ann Arbor Greenhills rally by scoring a late run to force extras. But Whiteford couldn’t find the big hit to bring home a win, and the Gryphons used a three-run top of the 12th to outlast the Bobcats 7-4 in a MHSAA Division 3 regional final at Adrian College. “We didn’t put them away when we had our opportunities,” Whiteford coach Terry Pant said. “Missed opportunities, and it happens. That’s baseball. “That’s why so many of the top teams are already knocked out. I didn’t think it was going to be our day [to be knocked out], but it was.”
