SLO County Italian restaurant closes. ‘You will always be a part of our family'

A family-run Italian restaurant in North County shut its doors for good this week after 22 years. Lombardi’s Pasta Familia in Cambria had its last day in business Monday, according to a sign posted outside the restaurant’s door. “This restaurant has always been so much more than a business to us,” the sign said. “It has been a part of our family, our lives, and our story. Over the years, many of you have become more than customers. You have become friends, familiar faces, and an extension of our family. We have been fortunate to share so many meals, celebrations, conversations, and memories with all of you.” Monica Melendrez has run Lombardi’s since 2021, when her husband, Nestor Hernandez, lost his battle with COVID-19 and passed away . “For over 15 years, my husband poured his heart and soul into this restaurant,” the sign said. “After losing him to COVID, I made the decision to carry on what he had built, keeping our family-owned Italian restaurant going and continuing to serve the amazing community that has supported us through so much.” Now, Melendrez is closing Lombardi’s to “slow down, spend more precious time with her family, and embrace the moments

Our Stories: The Q Inn Celebrates Veterans Day All Year Long

Joan & John Solu at The Q Inn, Main Street, Morro Bay. Photo provided by Joan Solu. This year November 11 is Veteran’s Day during America’s 250th. It is also the 85th anniversary since Morro Bay’s Amphibious Training Base dedication. Veteran’s Day is also known as Remembrance Day and certainly the appropriate time for Morro Bay to reflect on our local beginnings. Did you know before World War II Morro Bay had 400 residents? After WWII we grew to over 2,800 and over time our community has held steady at 10,000 except when our hotels, inns and B&Bs inflate our numbers attracting guests for the betterment of Morro Bay’s local businesses.

New indoor pickleball space to open in SLO. And it's serving up food and beer

Ryan Moore, Ethan Krout and Daniel Snyder had no solid place to play pickleball in San Luis Obispo. With how popular the courts at Del Mar Park were, the trio just wanted a place to play pickleball without getting rained out or competing for time on the courts. So they built their own spot. Four years after the original idea, a seven-court pickleball facility is celebrating its grand opening on Saturday, in a large renovated space formerly used by Cuesta College, the California National Guard and even as a concert venue for the Eagles in 1974. “It really does come down to making pickleball accessible for everybody,” Snyder told The Tribune. “Back to our roots of just a few dads after work once a week to just have some camaraderie and a break, it was frustrating when we couldn’t do that anymore. This will be that for many people.” When the trio got the idea to open their own pickleball courts, they immediately began searching for a place large enough to fit multiple pickleball courts. Moore took the courts from Del Mar Park on Google Earth and began pasting them onto buildings all over San Luis Obispo County. “When we

Press releases are posted on Independent.com as a free community service. GOLETA, Calif. – Many people in Santa Barbara County have met a Spark Rescue dog without knowing it: the shy shelter pup who became a neighbor’s best friend, or the cat curled up in a coworker’s window.
