Police officers, firefighters and others gathered along the funeral procession route to St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel in Chicago to remember 30-year-old officer Luis M. Huesca. The six-year veteran of the police department was just two days shy of his 31st birthday when he was slain.

CHICAGO — A nine-time convicted felon is accused of violently robbing two women at gunpoint while on pretrial release for a felony drug charge. Octavious Crockett, 31, has been awaiting trial on two counts of possession of heroin with intent to distribute since March 7. That’s when Chicago police said they saw him yelling “blows, blows!” a common solicitation for heroin sales, in the 800 block of North St. Louis. The cops allegedly found 24 baggies of suspected heroin in his waistband. Judge Susana Ortiz released him from custody the next day.
