Edgar falters late as Wildcats bid for 4th consecutive state trip ends
EDGAR — Edgar's season and pursuit for a fourth consecutive trip to Madison for the football state championships came down to one final possession Friday night. The Wildcats had a chance to complete a late comeback against Lomira in a WIAA Division 6 Level 3 playoff game, but couldn't find the go-ahead points in a 16-12 loss. Edgar pulled within two when Landon Lukasko powered into the end zone with 7:04 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats attempted an option pass on the two-point conversion, but the attempt fell incomplete, leaving Lomira with a 14-12 advantage. Last week in Level 2, Edgar knew they would need an extra boost in offense and responded with one of its most explosive offensive performances in long-tenured Edgar coach Jerry Sinz’s career. The Wildcats opened their Level 2 contest against Pardeeville, ripping off 50 points. SPASH XC dynasty snags 5th straight: SPASH dynasty snags historic 5th straight title | WIAA XC championships Sinz acknowledges that Lomira is considerably bigger than his group of Wildcats at the line of scrimmage, and it's one of the elements of the game the Wildcats intend to address in a plethora of manners. “We have bigger guys, and some of them are younger guys, freshmen and stuff.
