A Charlotte teenager remembered as a standout sprinter and football player has died after accidentally shooting himself in the head, according to local reports. Tayson Walker was rushed to a hospital intensive care unit after the shooting on November 3 and died the following day, November 4, after doctors fought to save his life.

Charlotte restaurant inches closer to Davidson debut. When will doors open?

Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen is bringing its seasonal, Southern fare to another Charlotte-area community. The restaurant from Noble Food & Pursuits is headed to Davidson, with plans to set up shop in the revamped Sadler Square Shopping Center, according to a social media post. Chef Kevin Darr, chief culinary officer for the restaurant group, said the restaurant is aiming for an early 2027 opening.

Driver charged with murder in wrong-way crash that killed 92-year-old, CMPD says

A Charlotte driver accused of speeding on the wrong side of Beatties Ford Road is now facing a second degree murder charge, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Stanley Burrison’s driving led to a three-vehicle crash that killed 92-year-old Dorthea Leak, and sent five people to hospitals with life-threatening injuries, CMPD says. It happened around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, in the 2700 block of Beatties Ford Road, which is just north of Interstate 85, police said. “Upon arrival, officers located a Ram pick-up truck on its side, a Tesla, and a Kia Sorento with heavy front-end damage,” CMPD said. “The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the Ram, Stanley Burrison, 66, was operating his truck on the wrong side of the roadway at a high rate of speed and struck the Kia head on. The Telsa was struck during the course of the collision.” Dorthea Leak was a passenger in the Kia. She died the next day at a hospital, police said. Burrison was arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and police report he has been charged with: Second degree murder Assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury Felony serious injury by vehicle Speeding Reckless driving Bullet struck man

LIBERTY —Two Charlotte men are facing multiple charges accused of cutting about 40 feet of cable at a cell tower site in Liberty, according to court records. Julian Smith Martinez-Amador, 47, and Jefferson Ezequiel Garcia-Ramirez, 26, were arrested Wednesday after Randolph County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a larceny in progress at a Verizon Wireless cell tower site on Starmount Road, in Liberty, according to the sheriff’s office.
