While some college football programs like the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Alabama Crimson Tide, or the Miami Hurricanes only seem to benefit from the college football transfer portal, others find themselves on the other end of the spectrum. The Houston Cougars are one of those teams down four players who entered the transfer portal heading into Thursday.

However, things turned from bad to worse once the clock struck midnight Thursday morning sparking a wave of exits from Cougars heading for the transfer portal. They lost seven players to the portal before noon, almost doubling their total from the first two days.

Cornerback Michael Patterson , wide receiver Mikal Harrison-Pilot , linebacker Aubrey Smith , offensive tackle Karson Jones , safety Jalyn Stanford , and tight ends Darson Herman and Bryan Henry all officially entered the Spring transfer portal on Thursday morning.

In their first season as members of the Big 12, the Cougars went 4-8 overall and 2-7 in conference play. They’ll be heading into a new era under former Tulane Green Wave head coach Willie Fritz in his first season with the Cougars.

The only player ranked higher than a three-star recruit out of this bunch is Harrison-Pilot who was ranked a four-star by On3's Industry Rankings.
