Latest water test finds no trace of Legionella
GRAND RAPIDS—At the Public Utilities Commission meeting on July 24, the Grand Rapids Public Utilities reported that the PUC conducted a Legionella test on the city’s municipal water supply and found no trace of the bacteria. In a video presentation following the meeting. Grand Rapids Public Utilities Manager Julie Kennedy said: “It was a really successful day here for us. This is the first day in several months that we’ve tested Legionella concentrations that are not reported in any of the premise plumbing that we tested last week.” Last month the city implemented a disinfectant plan to introduce small amounts of chlorine into the water supply to target and eliminate the bacteria. “It’s great news, it’s been a really long haul and we’re really excited to be able to report that,” said Kennedy.

Fauchald provides statement on recent highway fatalities
ITASCA COUNTY— At Tuesday’s Itasca County Board meeting, County Attorney Jake Fauchald provided an update from his office on two separate and recent deaths of walking-pedestrians struck by vehicles on Highway 169. Fauchald says the investigations into both matters are not yet complete and his office will make a decision on criminal charges after the investigations are completed and reviewed. The Minnesota State Patrol identified Dakota Kimberly Jones, age 14 on Monday, after she was fatally-struck in Coleraine early Monday morning. This incident occurred less than three weeks after Carter John Haithcock was also fatally-struck on Highway 169, in Nashwauk. Fauchald says the investigations are on-going.
