Newton High School Girls Golf Team Wins Close Match Over Pope John
NEWTON, NJ – The Newton High School girls golf team hosted Pope John on Wednesday, May 15 and won 255-260. Morristown Girls Lacrosse Defeats Morris Knolls on Senior Day
MORRISTOWN, NJ - The Morristown girls lacrosse team defeated Morris Knolls; 14-4 on Senior Day. The Colonials improved to 18-1 after the win. Megan O'Brien and Cathleen Moran led Morristown with three goals a piece. O'Brien had three assists and Moran had one. Teammates Anna Rivetti and Anna Szporn each added two goals. PHILLIPSBURG, NJ -- The Hunterdon Central softball team won the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament championship with a 6-1 victory over High Point on Friday. Kaitlyn Kozak and Emily Van Cleef combined to pitch a one-hitter for the Red Devils (12-8). Kozak allowed one hit, one unearned run, walked none and struck out two in four innings. Sparta Chess Club 2024 Honored at Township Council
SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta Chess Club was honored at the township council meeting on Tuesday, May 14 with a proclamation. The club, created and led by coach Thomas Murray was formed as a non-profit organization in 2002. This year the program saw its first undefeated champion Brendan Wick win the U1200 with a seven game undefeated streak to earn the title. Rowan Mendel won the individual UI1400 Speed Chess Championship. According to the proclamation the club has more than 50 members and has traveled to 17 states to represent Sparta in chess competitions. The proclamation also recognized Griffin Brawer, Ian Bellush, Ayush Iyer, Vaiden Pollard, Rowan Mendel, Brendan Wick and Imad Panjwani for their commitment and dedication to the club. “The majority of these players will be graduating this year and have been playing with the team since primary school.
