Lane County commissioners give selves $10,000 raise on Election Day

The Lane County Commissioner's Election Day agenda was packed. Commissioners approved a pay increase for themselves, a request from the Upper McKenzie Rural Fire Department that will let it operate an ambulance, and delayed a request from the parent company of the McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center related to the organization's request to transition to becoming a nonprofit. Commissioners approve pay raise The Lane County commissioners approved pay increases for themselves and Lane County's other elected officials on Nov. 3. The commissioner raise was split into two votes: a 2.7% cost of living adjustment and a 6.2% market adjustment to bring Lane County commissioner pay closer to commissioners at comparable counties. Combined, the two votes increase commissioners' annual salary from a $114,026 to a $124,363. The COLA vote was 4-1 and the market-based raise vote was 3-2. Commissioner Heather Buch, whose re-election bid was too close to call Tuesday night, voted in favor of both raises, while Commissioner David Loveall, who was ousted in the primary, voted against both. Additionally, commissioners approved 2.7% COLAs for the Lane County assessor, district attorney, justice of the peace and sheriff.
