Fight off your Election Day hangover with some concerts, shows in VT

Election Day has come and gone, so it’s time to turn your attention to registering your vote in favor of the Vermont arts and entertainment scene. Awkward political metaphors aside, the days after the march to the polls are busy, busy, busy in the creative world. That’s especially the case with music and theater, which dominate this list of things to do. Music ranges from folk singers and local rockers to string quartets and Prokofiev’s “Romeo & Juliet” for strings and percussion. Plays by Moliere and Rajiv Joseph lead the charge for Vermont theater companies. Now go out there and show your support! ‘Ballad of Maria Marten’ at St. Michael’s College 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5-Saturday, Nov. 7, the St. Michael’s College Performing Arts Program offers three nights of the Beth Flintoff play “ The Ballad of Maria Marten ,” which addresses domestic violence and will include representation in the theater lobby from STEPS to End Domestic Violence, McCarthy Arts Center, St. Michael’s College, Colchester. Long-time Burlington BBQ joint closes its doors

Bluebird Barbecue, a Burlington staple for slow-smoked meats, shut down this Halloween. The restaurant was set to serve curbside takeout until closing time on Saturday as a final sendoff. "It's time for Bluebird to say goodbye," owner Sue Bette said in a press release. "We wish Bluebird could continue on, but the conditions just aren't lining up for Bluebird to be Bluebird.” The barbecue restaurant had been roasting brisket, chopping beef and shredding coleslaw at 317 Riverside Ave. since 2012. Customers could chow down menu items like the “Family Reunion,” piled high with hickory-smoked meat that’s been cooking for 15 hours. The cuisine put a local spin on American classics, with maple-doused sauce or butter and pulled-pork poutine. Bluebird’s pitmaster ramen, which combined the burnt ends of slow-smoked brisket with Japanese noodle soup, earned a visit from TV personality and chef Guy Fieri for the popular Food Network show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” in 2020. Bette and the rest of the Bluebird Barbecue staff had no further comment on the restaurant’s closure, a representative told the Burlington Free Press last week. "As we send Bluebird off, we want to recognize all the Bluebirds, past and present, whose talent, creativity, and
