82-year-old man punched in the face, Burlington police say
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Burlington police say around 2 p.m. Saturday, 41-year-old, Shawn McConnell approached an 82-year-old man and punched him -- knocking him out. The victim was taken to the hospital with face injuries. McConnell was arrested a short time later, nearby, and charged with assault. However, the court released McConnell shortly after that. Police add he has a criminal history in New Hampshire, and has had dozens of ruins with law enforcement since arriving in Vermont last January. McConnell is due in court tomorrow.

Underhill homeowner charged by bear
UNDERHILL, Vt. (WCAX) - Officials in the town of Underhill are warning residents after they say a local resident was repeatedly charged by a bear on Pleasant Valley Road. Underhill Animal Control Officer Jennifer Silpe-Katz says the bear tried to attack a man while he was in his yard. She says he was able to defend himself from multiple charges by using a stick and shouting as he retreated into his home. Even then, she says the bear continued to try and attack the house and get inside.

UVM graduation to carry on without commencement speaker
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The University of Vermont is preparing for more than 3,000 to walk across the stage this weekend to receive their diplomas. Graduating seniors could be seen across campus Friday wearing their caps and gowns for photos, and crews set up chairs and tents on the green. Jeffersonville man arrested for burglary at local construction company
JEFFERSONVILLE — A Waterville man was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly breaking into a local construction business, state police said.
